It’s been my honor to serve our students and community as a Rochester Public Schools School
Board member for the last 12 years. During that time, our schools and the Rochester community
faced significant change and challenge, but I’ve never been more optimistic about our future.

Because of deliberate, targeted focus, we’ve seen some much-needed improvement in math and
literacy scores as well as attendance and graduation rates. Regardless, we still have significant
needs that must be met in these and many other areas. Work needs to be done—thoughtful,
informed, strategic work-- and I’m prepared to do it.

As a Board member, I’ve served as Board Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Clerk. I’ve worked on RPS
committees including Student School Board, Community Curriculum and Instruction Advisory, Parent
and Family Engagement, Rochester Public School Foundation, American Indian Parent Advisory,
Policy, Tri Government, and as liaison to American Indian Parent Advisory Committee and Meet and
Confer.

I’ve served as a Board member for Rochester’s Civic Theatre and the History Center of Olmsted
County, and on advisory councils for Winona State and Augsburg Universities.

I have the great good fortune to have worked 40 years at a job I loved: teaching RPS secondary
students at Mayo High School, John Adams Middle School, Friedell, and Century High School. The
experience and education I got about teaching and learning from being in a classroom for that many
years is absolutely invaluable, and choosing to be a teacher was one of the best decisions I’ve ever
made.

I’m excited to be involved in the critically important work our District needs to do so that all students in
our school system, pre-K though graduation, know they belong, are valued, and have every
opportunity possible to succeed in school and in life.
